1. Why MBA?

In 1960s and 70s management courses were a rarity in India. By 1990s, Management education had fully evolved and there has been considerable integration of business, commerce, industry and economy as part of globalization, liberalization and privatization. Hence, there was an unprecedented boom in the MBA colleges and Business schools. MBA/PGDM imparts a competitive edge to the individuals seeking career advancement and the organizations aspiring to excel.

2. What is MBA all about?

A MBA program in a top Business school prepares the participants to view the corporate world from the Board Room. Typically, you begin your career at the lower rungs and graduate through the middle and top echelons of responsibility and authority. You are groomed to become an intraprenuer or entrepreneur with social responsibility.

3. What is the selection process for MBA/PGDM?

A MBA/PGDM aspirant should be a graduate with at least 50% marks. S(he) should have a valid management aptitude test score. IIMs and some leading institutions hold their own tests. For all AICTE approved courses, CMAT is compulsory from the academic session 2013-14.

7. What is the difference between MBA and PGDM?

Both are essentially post graduate courses. MBA is a university driven course. Most of the premier institutions including IIMs offer PGDM. In Kerala, there are a few institutions offering PGDM with Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognition as equivalent to MBA.

8. Are bank loans available for MBA/PGDM?

Yes. Bank loans are available to students undergoing MBA/PGDM courses in colleges recognized by the University / AICTE.

9. Is there any concession available to students belonging to SC/ST categories?

The tuition fees and mess fee etc are reimbursed to the college by the Government of Kerala. The students also receive a small pocket money.

10. Is dual specialization possible in MBA/PGDM?

Yes. Dual specialization is possible both in MBA and PGDM

11. Is it necessary to attend coaching classes to appear for CMAT exam?

However, it may help you to prepare better for the test.

13. Is it essential to clear the Group Discussion and Personal Interview after obtaining the CMAT score?

Yes. The Business Schools hold GD/PI from time to time to assess the suitability of the candidates for admission to MBA/PGDM.

Prof (Maj) Premanathan was commissioned in to the Army Education Corps from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He has done his Masters in Personnel Management from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune. He also holds a degree in Law. He worked as faculty in the National Defense Academy, Pune, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and Officers Training Academy, Chennai. After taking pre mature retirement from the Army, he worked as Rgeistrar Centre for Water Resoruces Development & Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode for 8 years.
